As an entrepreneur, formed the highly-regarded IT consulting and research company, Butler Cox in 1977, developed it, floated it on the London Stock Exchange, and presided over its sale to a major international group in 1991.

As a corporate executive, was Managing Director and later Chairman of Unisys in the UK, before taking over responsibility for all service-related business across Europe and for all the European Country Managers.

City

As an independent director of LIFFE (the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange) played a significant part in overseeing the restructuring and turnaround of the exchange.

An independent director of Bradford & Bingley.

Manufacturing

Started life as an aeronautical engineer, spent two years as factory manager in his late 20s. Now serves as a Board Member of Shorts.

Served as a non-executive member of the Management Board of the Inland Revenue for four years.

Rowed for the University of London, coached with the British rowing team at two World Championships, served as Chairman of Selectors for the 1979 World Championships and the 1980 Olympics.
