Comments on discussion papers

Hi Shirin,

I read you internet position paper and can offer a couple of comments.

1. table 1 puzzles me a bit because its titled `rates of increase’ but it doesn’t really give that. In fact as the data in table 1 is repeated in table 2, its kind of redundant, or should there be something else?
2. I was wondering if it might be possible to develop from your analysis some sort of theory/model/framework of internet-induced development. For example, maybe your key issues are the independent variables, and sustainable development is the dependent variable. Is there a way you might imagine in which these and perhaps other variables could be interrelated in a diagrammatic framework which depicts the effect of the internet on development.
3. For a more up-to-date example of UN activity in support of internet usage, you might like to check out their Asia Pacific Development Information Programme here in Kuala Lumput (http://www.apdip.net/). They are helping countries to set up and use the internet.
